Brain motor development and specialized child care in Woodstock, Georgia

Posted on 11-10-2014

Motor skill development is an important part of a child’s early physical progress. Child care experts say that motor development can be defined as a child’s ability to use both large and small muscles. Kids ‘R’ Kids Learning Academy of Woodstock, Georgia will take a closer look at your child’s motor development in the paragraphs below.

Motor development can be broken down into two main categories:

Fine motor skills

Fine motor skills refers to a child’s ability to use their smaller muscles. Utilizing hands and fingers, they will be able to pick up and use small objects effectively. Drinking from a cup, drawing with a pencil or simply holding and using a spoon will be accomplished using these smaller muscles.

The development of fine motor skills during a child’s early years will benefit the child throughout life. The child will gain the ability to accomplish the tasks necessary to learn and excel in this age of technology. Communicating using cell phone keypads and computer keyboards have quickly become necessary skills. It is incredibly important, in this digital age, to master and develop these skills competently during early childhood.

Gross motor skills

Gross motor skills refers to the child’s ability to use the larger muscles in the body. Honing and perfecting gross motor skills allow infants the ability to sit up and crawl. Slightly older preschool children will become successful at running, jumping, and climbing.

Gross motor skills should be fine-tuned at a young age. They are important as your child progresses through life, and will impact your child’s ability to excel in such activities as sports or dancing.
